Using weather as the metaphor
I’m a Believer
Just as I observed the dark rain clouds during Winnie's morning walk, I wanted to write something in this week's musings that related to the current events in the Middle East and an understanding of the inside-out nature of reality.
I'll use the weather as a metaphor, so here goes.
I think every decent human can agree that more killing of innocent humans is not going to solve the current crisis. It's therefore crucial for us to shift our perspective when looking at the Israel-Palestine situation.
Instead of focusing solely on past grievances (the storm that has been and gone), both sides might benefit from looking ahead, anticipating the future, and working towards a shared vision of peace (to see where the weather is coming from and what it holds).
Dark clouds, like the sporadic incidents of violence, can be seen as indicators of what's to come. But if we react to these raindrops without understanding the larger pattern, we risk getting caught in a storm without an umbrella.
Similarly, if the focus remains on revenge and past wrongs, the cycle of violence and mistrust will continue, with no end in sight.
The clouds in the sky can be seen as the larger forces at play – historical narratives, political agendas, and deeply rooted beliefs. By understanding their direction and movement, we can better anticipate future challenges and opportunities. And by understanding the human condition, we can anticipate our potential reactions to these events.
In the context of Israel and Palestine, this means recognising the broader geopolitical dynamics, the aspirations of the people, and the potential for change and lasting peace.
Just as I looked behind me to see what was coming in the morning sky, it is essential for leaders and citizens alike to look beyond the immediate provocations and consider the long-term consequences of their actions.
What kind of future do they want for their children? What compromises are they willing to make for a lasting peace?
The inside-out nature of the human condition reminds us that real change starts from within.
Instead of reacting to external events, both Israelis and Palestinians can benefit from introspection, understanding each other's fears and hopes, and finding common ground.
In the meantime, here's hoping that the bloodshed ceases and talking starts... learn heaps, love loads and then pass it on.
